Principal's Welcome
Dear Students, Parents, and Family Members of TEAM Correia,

As principal of Correia Middle School (CMS), I WELCOME you to an exciting opening of school year 2009-10. I refer to us as a TEAM and firmly believe that the positive relationships we build and establish will benefit the social, emotional, and academic well being of the students we serve. Last year, our TEAM work resulted in a series of accomplishments, including an incredible growth in our test scores. The preliminary data suggests that Correia gained 65 points, which boosts our API to 825! State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O’Connell, held a press conference at CMS last week to release testing data and to honor CMS for gains in closing our achievement gap.

CMS is proud to offer our students rigorous and relevant academic programs. Our staff believes that every child deserves the highest quality instruction every day. Core classes include: language arts, math, science, social studies, and physical education. Elective classes include: music, art, world languages – Spanish and Mandarin, ASB, Yearbook, choir, and musical theatre. In addition, every student will have an advisory class, which will offer students who are at grade level, or above, an additional “mini” elective. For those students in need of additional support in reading or math, the advisory class will offer focused instructional support in the area(s) of need.

Our TEAM includes an association that is highly involved in supporting teaching and learning. Please join the association and attend meetings. Contacts are: Andrea Justus at: andreajustus@cox.net and Christy Scadden at: cscadden@cox.net. Meeting dates/times are posted at: www.correiamiddle.com

In addition, CMS has an involved group of adults who offer support by serving as an extra set of eyes and ears as we all guide our young adolescents safely through these formative years. The group, Correia Corps, is directed by Judi Labenske at: jlabenske@yahoo.com. We welcome your involvement.

Our website is getting a face-lift, thanks to the hard work of Christy Scadden. Please visit us regularly for updated announcements and information. Please note that our Curriculum Night is scheduled for September 22nd from 5:30 – 7:30. Mark your calendars and meet the wonderful staff of Correia Middle School!

Putting students first,

Patricia Ladd
Principal
